Black Berkey Water Filters Review
Some of you know my story about how I first found the Black Berkey water filters, but others don't so let me briefly tell you about it.
I bought and used several different brands of filters from the local store because my water tasted horrible and I knew there a few harmful contaminants in the water.
What I didn't know until later was that there were hundreds of contaminants in my water.
The cheap filter I bought actually didn't eliminate any of it. They only reduced a few heavy metals and chlorine and that was it.
When I say reduce I mean barely reduce.
How I Found Black Berkey Water Filters
Once I had an inkling of information about water contamination I had to research much further.
It wasn't just one web site, one doctor or one concerned individual.
It was dozens upon dozens of sites, doctors, researchers and radio shows who all touched on the subject of contaminated water.
This had to have been about a third world country, right? No way! They were talking about our treated water right at home.
Sure, dumping chlorine into the water supply is supposed to kill bacteria and it may but chlorine itself is toxic and it doesn't kill all bacteria.
Once I learned this information, I began to notice everyone recommending the Black Berkey water filters which are the filtration elements found in a Berkey system.
When I read the fact sheets on these elements I was taken back because they eliminate or reduce just about all the contaminants I read about earlier.
Let me just name a few toxins that they filter:
Pesticides, trihalomethanes, radiologicals, inorganic minerals, VOCs, heavy metals and even nitrates.
My Review Of The Black Berkey Elements
Okay, so I had the information and that was comforting, but it wasn't enough.
How am I supposed to believe that they actually filter all that stuff out?
Is it really worth the cost? I looked closer at the white paper information and found this.
"The Black Berkey filtration element formulation has been tested by State & EPA accredited laboratories to exceed EPA & ANSI/NSF (Std. 53) protocol.
Tested by the University of Arizona, Spectrum Labs, the Department of Toxicology and Environmental Science, Louisiana State University."
That was also comforting to see, but that still wasn't enough. The only other thing I needed to do was test it myself.
I ordered my first set of Black Berkey water filters for the Travel Berkey in 2006. I shared all my research with my wife and she said to go for it.
We got the filters and I primed them like they ask you to and let water filter through them a few times before drinking.
My unbiased review is that these filters are absolutely unbelievable! When I first tasted the water it was nothing I've ever tasted before.
Going from tap water or Brita water to Berkey water is like night and day. It wasn't just the taste though.
There was something energizing about the water. It actually made me feel good physically.
I guess that's just the effects of drinking pure water instead of chemical and heavy metal filled tap water.
There was no looking back.
Since 2006 my family has been drinking from Black Berkey filters and we have no plans of drinking from any other filter.
